Details
-------
YouTube is one of the most popular sites on the World Wide Web.
However, its value is undermined by the fact that it can still require
a proprietary Flash player. Even worse, the site itself is a
proprietary entity whose technological underpinnings are unavailable
for learning and improving upon.
This talk will discuss the state of Internet video in today's world
and what can be done to improve it. Dan will introduce a new project
to create a free software clone of YouTube. The talk will cover the
new software's functionality, how it will be used to view Internet
media, plans for the project and how to contribute. Feedback on the
project is welcomed.
The event will include a Q&A session, discussion and then move to the
pub afterwards for further debate.

Dan Dart says:
"I am a software engineer for CANDDi web analytics. I've been a PHP
professional for 3 years and an amateur project leader for 4
more. On an amateur basis I've created a web desktop, several useful
tools and I'm also creating a free software video sharing system. I
was introduced to free software operating systems about 9 years ago,
and have since explored various distros since then."
