Not only employers but some (all?) of the exam bodies awarding GCSE/AS/A2
level qualifications are Microsoft-centric.

By "subsidize" you mean requiring them to pay for systems that are over
speced for what they do. You need a fast processor, lots of RAM and speedy
disks to be able to display that f***ing animated paper clip.
