You're confused over terminology. "boot" is when Linux first loads,
typically after a power-up or after typing something like "reboot" as root
(there are other ways too). I suspect you are talking about "logging in",
which is very different thing - but correct me if I'm mistaken.

If you are having problems, it is helpful to tell those whom you seek help
from precisely what the problem is - "or some such" says, to me, that
you're not sure what it says and are unable/unwilling/whatever to check.
Tell us exactly what the error message is and we'll try to help.
