OK,  Wednesday is on.  We have apple-cake so far -
I am negotiating for something savoury as well !

Thanks for replies on  KDE versus Gnome.

I have been running Gnome for about a week,  but am back on KDE -
not that I use it much.  I use Kmail,  and  Mozilla,  and then go to the 
"konsole"  for command line stuff -  mostly  Postscript  or Pascal. as well
as any  playing with files, etc.
