Thanks Rick.  I have that on disk, but had not looked into that aspect.

The best looking bit of this one looks like Prosper, which is available 
on Debian GNU/Linux. It seems to be a bolt-on for Latex.

I have already had a play with OO-Impress.  That works OK too.

I am busy plotting maps in Postscript.
