You didn't state that you would run apt-get, therefore I claim the

As for what happens when you do run apt-get blah, I have no idea but I'd
sure google can help.

In related news I know RHEL can be upgraded to Centos in a similar
manner when the subscription runs out. But then it is just a logo swap
and recompile.
