Hi Keith
This all stemmed from a thread on another mailing list to do with running a
server command at the CLI and the command stopping when the user logged out
of that server.
Yes, I know it's nothing like my query, but that's the way my mind works -
on tangents - and apart from which I was also curious about the different
way Linux handles this to M$.

If they use the same temporary files then I suppose there could be a
crossover of information. However, it would be extremely poor programming
if they really did use the same temporary files. Most languages support
the creation of a temporary file that is guaranteed to be unique.
What's the real problem here? What are you trying to do?
