This depends entirely on what you are trying to actually do. For example
if the calculations are not that excessive and you want to interactively
modify function parameters and see the changes on the graphs in real
time then a spreadsheet is pretty good. You can use the spin button or
scroll bar tools to set the value within a cell and have a nice
clickable way of altering it. Then replace the c program with
appropriate function calculations in the sheet and graph the columns of
data.
But then again, that might not be applicable for what your friend
actually needs to do.
