I also have SuSE 8.1 and have had problems with K3b.

Firstly, because of the way SuSE have configured K3b, it does not allow y=
ou to=20
set up K3b. The K3b Setup screen appears for a few seconds, then disapear=
s.=20
What should happen is that you should go through several K3b set up scree=
ns.

I found that after I installed KOnCD, using the YaST2 Software installer,=
=20
then, the K3b Setup worked!

Secondly, my CD Writer is not suported, so I've not been able to finish t=
he=20
job.
