Fetchmail is normally configured to download from POP3 mailbox to the local
SMTP server (or direct delivery), the mail is stored in system mailbox
generally. The IMAP server offers mail stored in the system mailboxes (or
stored in user mail folders). You can almost certainly reconfigure behaviour
to suit circumstances.
