[Nottingham] vfat mounts

This is probably a simple fix, but I'm stumped:

I've got some vfat partitions that I want to mount and then share using
samba. (samba-2.2.7a-7.9.0 running under redhat 9 (2.4.20-9 kernel))

When I mount the vfat partitions, only root has rwx and all else have r-x.
This means that when I share the mount points using samba, the shares are
effectively read only.

Is there a way around this (mount options)?
