| I'm looking for some advice on email and calendaring server software.
|
| I need something that can be accessed by outlook and from at least one
| graphical Linux based client (preferably evolution) for both mail and
| calendars.

I've been investigating this at work for a few weeks now. The ideal situation
we were looking for would be Open Source software that runs on Linux, and
provides emulation of Microsoft Exchange so that Outlook or even Evolution can
interface with it to centrally store calendar/contact list/e-mail data.

Here are a few options we found:

http://www.opengroupware.org - Interfaces with Outlook, also has web GUI. It
was pretty tricky to install and we didn't get the Exchange functionality
working. I think you have to pay for one of the software components?

http://www.bynari.net/ - Does the same as the above, but you have to pay for
it (although it's relatively cheap). It looks pretty robust and the web GUI is
excellent.

http://www.suse.co.uk/uk/business/products/suse_business/openexchange/index.ht
ml - Expensive but awesome. It does everything and more, but it includes its
own Linux OS (SuSE) so you can't install it over an existing Linux
installation. Aimed at businesses - probably not an option for individuals.

Anyway, these are just my current findings. Looks like we're going to buy the
latter. I'm sure other people on the list have other experiences and could
maybe point you in the direction of more open source solutions.

Regards,
Alex.
