Okay folks, better late than never....
Wednesday 3rd September 19:00 (more details)
-----------------------
The Distro War will take place at Alex Herington's place of work.
I'm putting down a start time of 19:00 to give us a bit of time to
have a good bash.
Address:
Broadway Business Centre, 32a Stoney Street, just down from the Adams Building and NCP car park.
Press the IT Dept. buzzer on the door.
As I said, I'll bring a machine but it would be handy if we had another available
so one person can be preparing while the other talks.
Pre-meeting:
I won't be able to make this since I'll be driving my computer in but I would suggest "Pit & Pendulum"
as an easy to find pre-meeting place.
Post-meeting: "Pit & Pendulum" probably 20:30-21:00 ish.
Not the best pub in the world but it wasn't too busy and is easily found.
Awareness Day 1st November
--------------------------
Purpose:
The intention is to demo Gnu/Linux and some of the wonderful applications
which are available through it. We should be aiming to demonstrate to the uninitiated
(not necesarily Windows users) some of what they can achieve, with ease, using Linux.
Many of the applications we might demo (eg. OpenOffice) may be of interest to both home
and small business users but we don't think we have the space or resources (this time)
to do a proper job of demoing the "business case for Linux"
Location:
Green's Mill and Science Centre
Windmill Lane, Sneinton, Nottingham NG2 4QB
Time:
I'm imagining 10:00 - 16:00.
Publicity:
1. We have a blurb in the Nottingham 'what's on'
2. Putting some posters/flyers together for this is on my todo list. I'll make them
available from the web site when ready (by next week I hope).
3. Anyone knowing of parties that may be interested pass the word.
4. Any ideas ?
The future
----------
The awareness day isn't just a chance for us to demo linux to lots (?) of eager people
but also a chance for us to test ourselves - can we organise a drinking competition in a
brewery. Some of us have been discussing a larger NotLug Expo type event for next year
including the "business case for Linux". At the very least the awareness day is a dry
run for that.
Have fun,
Duncan
