Has anyone seen anything about Mandrake 9.0 problems with Sony CDRWs

I've just updated from 8.1 (no problems) to 9.0 and now /dev/scd0 is a red and 
flashing, there's a new link /dev/sr0 red and flashing. Both of which mount 
tell me don't exist. dmesg seems to imply that the drive is on /dev/sr0 but 
that doesn't exist either.........
