SuSE ISO's are much nicer - as some of us don't have the ability to get
broadband in the sticks.

Yeah yeah, I know SuSE doesn't do an ISO distribution bigger than 1 cd...

Exactly the way to go is to set up a proxy cache, squid or wwwoffle.
Then on Linux install set up the proxy, in the options, rpm supports
proxies,
and Debian has info on 'install accelerators'.  So long as you configure
sensibly, you get a local ftp cache, and just suck what you need.

LAN mirrors make more sense with dialup, where something just won't install
in a reasonable time (especially with 2 hour timeouts).

People are constantly asking on USEnet for SuSE ISO files to burn, not
realising all they need is one small boot cd  or 5 floppies.  Then do the
install via ftp, which with broadband is doable in sane time
