Hi Martin
I'm unsure which distro you're on, SUSE or Mandrake. If Mandrake then
have a look at /usr/share/usb.info. SUSE probably has something
similar, somewhere. This gives a list of USB devices which Mandrake
knows about. If it's not mentioned there then it may be an addition in
/etc/hotplug. If it's not in either then it looks as if your distro
won't support your CDRW without any help.
If you do a "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices" and your CDRW is plugged in then
it should be mentioned there. All devices start with a "T" tag and look
something like
T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 1.10 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=06b9 ProdID=4061 Rev= 0.00
S: Manufacturer=ALCATEL
S: Product=Speed Touch USB
S: SerialNumber=0090D044CC17
C:* #Ifs= 3 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=500mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=usbdevfs
E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 16 Ivl=50ms
I: If#= 1 Alt= 0 #EPs= 0 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=usbdevfs
I: If#= 1 Alt= 1 #EPs= 3 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=usbdevfs
E: Ad=06(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
etc etc
This gives the Vendor and Product ID. It's worthwhile using these hex
strings to check the above files just incase the CDRW is a badged item.
And don't forget to use the email address at the beginning of "usb.info"
to enable the author to update the list if need be.
If still a blank then all is not lost .
But before that are you aware that a very recent support item was posted
om www.amacom.co.uk about Linux and Baby CDRWs, infering that you
just need "USB Mass Storage" (plus associated baggage !!) to get it to
work. Does that relate to your CDRW ?
Best of Luck !!
