As it stands mail to the list is authenticated vs subscriber e-addresses.  If the sender isn't known the message lands on Godfrey's lap to deal with as he sees fit.

If someone were to post via the news gateway we would need to have their email address to authenticate against but if we have it then they will be receiving the list by email which is what they are trying to avoid ;)

Maybe a news gateway can do clever things with mail headers to get round this.  I don't know.

At home I use mhMail and as often as not 'less' to read with.  It has no threading, mail often arrives out of sync and if I want to get at an attatchment I have to squidge it though mhn/metamail.
It doesn't bother me because I don't really care.  Hence I'm probably not the best person to comment on MUA's.
