OK, the following is what I troed posting on monday morning, less the promised attachment, which I think may be caasing trouble with posting it.

Dave

A fresh head on a monday morning is always a good thing. On friday I managed to copy al the XFree rpms from CD and rerun them all. This morning I salvaged an XFreeConfig file from friday and although it was pretty ugly to start with, the config tools worked and everything is back to apparent 'normal'.

Thanks for all the help on friday. It was all a bit rushed due to an enfored dept pub trip (gutted ;-)), thinking time over the weekend certainly helped!

I've attached a the friday pm section of var/log/messages, but as there were about 4 files worth there I temporarily posted the rest at:

in case they're of any interest.

>I take you mean a new disc...
er... that's something to talk to the money man about. I was meaning something more along the lines of a disater recovery CD with config files and suchlike on. one for this afternoon hopefully, along with doing a LOT of shouting about backing up user data.

Thanks again,

Dave
