[Nottingham] introductory courses?

Dunno about Nottingham but I know for a fact that Trent don't teach
Unix. Very much a Windows shop, Mike (Hi Mike) on the list is trying
to sway them but in my two years there the most Linux we've had is
"You can use Linux to do your Java coursework on but I don't really
know how to use it"
Neat!

I learnt with a good old fashioned book!
A beginners/dummies book maybe?
And http://www.tldp.org is a good resource!
