GigaBytes (GB) are 8 times bigger than Gigabits (Gb).  You get 1GB per day.
NTL don't care if you go over your 1GB limit 3 days in a fortnight.

The Cable modem downstream use 34Mb shared channels, the upstream 3.5Mb,
which are segmented with 1000-2000 cable modems per channel, per area/region
(several HFC trees).

Assuming most people have the 600Kb service and there are 1000 modems in use
this would give a contention of 1:20 - 1:25 for the last mile and maybe
slight contention beyond the CMTS (Headend) if it's only 100Mb/155Mb.

Personally, I've never found it a problem, whereas I have found the ADSL
contention BTO and friends to be sucky.
