[Nottingham] distro chance

hi,

Ive been thinking about a distro chance (currently using mandrake). 

i know opinions on this change hugely between almost every linux user but ive 
got nothing to loose in asking.

The things i liked about drake were easy download and instilation of packages 
through the urpmi command

Easy enough to fix when system goes kaboom

Which other distros offer similar advantages?

Debian is a maybe (apt-get is handy) and ive had a little experience with 
it....but im worried it will be over my head when i need to fix 
something...or set something up.

im not too keen on RH but maybe someone will warm me up to it with their 
words :)

im open to all suggestions
