I can't comment on 4-way, but as for amd 64 bit architecture in general, I
have had success with Gentoo and Fedora core 2. (including running mysql
in both cases)

I understand Debian has also made a lot of progress recently with amd64 
support, but the debian crowd around here can probably tell you more about 
that.

There's not really much to watch out for, but googling for various distros 
compatability or any issues with your particular hardware would be a good 
idea.
