Just an update and a question.

I'm getting quite pleased with myself, really!  I now have

- Linux doing everything I'd expect on my laptop itself
- Wireless networking with two XP machines, with filesharing (both ways) and 
printing to the XP network printer
- Only a few more grey hairs than I had when I started all this!

Now for this time's request:  does anyone know whether there's a way of 
sending a message from a Linux machine to an XP one via the LAN?  The idea 
would be that if the laptop is being used in another part of the house, 
whoever's using it could get a note to pop up on the main machine in the XP 
network asking whoever's using it to turn on the printer, or kick the 
Internet dial-up, or whatever.  Just something it would be nice to have...
