On k3b, one thing to be aware of: once you've got it running, before burning anything use k3bsetup (it's on the K3b menu somewhere). The need to do so is far too lightly documented, but if you don't you stand a fair chance of creating quite a few frustrating coasters before working it out! -- David Aldred
