Martin,
I'm a fan of two:
Damn Small Linux: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/ - Active development
and boots from a pen drive.
Lnx-bbc: http://www.lnx-bbc.org/ - Daddy of the small distro, but a
little out of date.
Both have debian roots so you can slurp up some extras if required and
they both fit on 50MB, lovely.
