I think real hackers use whatever tool fits the job. I mainly use vim, 
but I haven't found anything as useful as ediff-buffers in emacs. It has 
a cryptic key sequence that would put vi users to shame: ESCx 
ediff-buffers (filenames) m|nnnbnnb! etc etc. That's my shortcut of the 
week.
