Hi Matt,

I don't think I've met you (sorry if I have, and just don't know you by
name). Have you been to a meeting lately? I am a relative newbie and
just started coming to meetings a couple of months ago.

As a recent "joinee", and IMHO, I don't really think that whether or not
Tux has a drink in his appendage is really going to make or break whether
or not someone becomes involved in the LUG. I think advocacy and
inclusiveness probably have more to do with the numbers of those who
actively advocate and incude, rather than anything a potential joinee may
or may not assume based on the logo... (Who said Tux's frothing drink is
alcoholic anyway? Could be a root beer float, or albino hot chocolate
with whipped cream on top, or a mug of coffee after you've dropped a block
of dry ice into it.)

OK, we all know its meant to be ale, but seriously, what Linux user does
anyone know of who would honestly be put off of joining a list or coming
to a meeting because he (she!?!) is afraid the someone in the group might
drink such a beverage? (...and who is the one being intolerant then?)

Back on the note of advocation and inclusiveness, I have to say that we
have felt quite included at events so far, regardless of not knowing
enough to really participate in many of the more tecchy conversations.
(I couldn't program my way out of a paper bag, for instance...) But hey,
thats how we learn-- hear about something, then read to find out more.
After hearing a few of the speakers at meetings and such, I am also happy
to say that I find the group to be respectful of each other's knowledge
(or lack thereof ;-) ), which is honestly a breath of fresh air compared
to a lot of other tecnically oriented groups.

Anyway, Many thanks to those who have made us feel welcome, and those who
have so kindly even (*gasp*) bought us a drink or two! ;-)

Cheers,

-Stef
