Thanks for the egg-sucking lesson :-/

I chivvied that one up in a hurry because MRTG was there, and I didn't 
want to install something heavy like Cacti just to do basic graphing. Or 
conjure something up myself (which although I have templates to do it 
using Perl, to be honest I simply CBA).

As for the updates... strictly speaking, MRTG uses a database file. It's 
just a comparatively inefficient one :)
For sites (not mine, I must say) where there are large numbers of page 
views, generating a static image which updates periodically is far more 
efficient than generating four images via CGI for every page view.

Those of you who are still Pipex staff (or DS customers) have probably 
got access to part or all of a fairly wide range of tools/monitors I've 
written using RRDTool.
