[Nottingham] Motherboard (new) upgrade

OK Folks,

I'm looking to upgrade for before Christmas (this year :-) ), 'cos I'm
running a real old clunker...

At the moment, which motherboard manufacturers are flavour of the month?

Any gotchas to steer clear of?

And I've got quite a bias towards AMD so I'll be looking for an AM2(+)
board... Unless strongly swayed with better info...

Any guiding comments? Experiences?
