To rule out a hardware fault, boot to a recent live CD and check X runs fine 
and your HDDs are usable. Also run a memtest (on most live CDs) and take time 
to check if the machine is possibly overheating.

You could bring it to the Navigation on Thursday and we can have a look at it 
for you. Any SuSE experts out there?
