Interesting comments thus far.

And yes, my concern is how long a flash would last for /var ...

With the 'hope' that the flash has good wear firmware (sorry for the
rhyming pun there), I can hope that the flash would survive the larger
incremental writes from an hourly rsync from a tempfs onto the flash copy...


Or, RAID it all and replace and re-sync as needed...
