[Nottingham] USB LiveDistros Persistance (or, Going Diskless)

Folks,

Anyone played going diskless for their system?

There's the FAT16/32 LiveCD type stuff using squashfs with "casper" to
save user changes into a second ext2 partition. Anyone played with that
and calling casper to save regular snapshots? How?

Or a distro can be installed onto flash. Any variations already
available that are flash friendly? What happens to the log files?

I may well be playing with putting Xubuntu onto a USB memory stick for a
VIA C3 512MByte system where the HDD has died...

Comments?

Others? (This is for firewalling and LAMP serving...)

And an old asked question... Anything better than ext2 for USB memory
sticks?

Cheers,
Martin
