[Nottingham] putty display stuff

Are you talking about X forwarding?
If yes, you need to install xwin or xming (on your windows box) so
that you can view the X display (i.e. Linux) windows.
This explains it well:
http://www.math.umn.edu/systems_guide/putty_xwin32.html. I used xming
when I tried this a while ago and it seemed to work okay - if not a
bit slow.
