[Nottingham] Mega-pixel webcams

Just briefly tried the "BCL Night Vision Webcam (Pink) - 1.3-mega pixel
(true CCD) web cam" from Web Systems:

http://www.web-systems.co.uk/?page=Products&pid=4464

The Windows driver for that does indeed claim a higher resolution than
just 640x480, however, it's all lies of interpolation.

It works fine on Linux and has 640x480 as the max resolution.

Linux reports the image sensor to be HV7131R. From the datasheets, that
device is a 640x480 cmos 10bit-adc image sensor...

The webcam does have a nice wide angle view using a glass lens. However,
it is still only 350k pixels, CMOS, and suffers the same very low
dynamic range of all similar such webcams.

Anyone know of anything better that fully works on Linux and doesn't
bust the £25 mark?

Cheers,
Martin
