Folks,
An interesting series of links that I've just stumbled across whilst
troubleshooting:
20 Linux System Monitoring Tools Every SysAdmin Should Know
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/top-linux-monitoring-tools.html
20 Linux Server Hardening Security Tips
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-security.html
10 Greatest Open Source Software Of 2009
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/10-greatest-open-source-software-of-2009.html
My 10 UNIX Command Line Mistakes
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/my-10-unix-command-line-mistakes.html
Of the errors examples, I've certainly been caught a few times with the
horror of a single ">" on a commandline rather than the intended ">>".
Hence a certain paranoia now to copy config files to
"configfile.version" _before_ doing anything!...
And for the biggest tip of all:
Google (or whichever your favourite search engine) is a fantastic tool
to see if anyone else has documented a fix to whatever you're trying to
fix. The hardest part is in framing the search term usefully.
Also, the above cyberciti site is quite a good blog example for the
articles. Not so sure though about the menus to reach the articles...
You're forced to do a search.
Which reminds me about our new website...
Cheers,
Martin
