Chris Joice will confirm that the Wildfire is indeed rootable - I think he's
running CyanogenMod 6 (Android 2.2), although there are now nightly builds
for CM7 (Android 2.3) available.
Here's a quick guide for ya:
Grab the Unrevoked tool from http://unrevoked.com - There's a Linux version,
you'll be happy to know, which is actually easier to use than the Windows
version (which runs into driver issues with the HTC Sync program).
