Don't want to start a flame was but I'm not sure that's true... I
mainly use Gnome and often don't see qt at all until it's pulled in as
a dependency for some unusual non-standard software. KDE is far from
essential to a working Linux system. On the other hand there isn't a
ready replacement for the GNU toolchains that are used for building
the vast majority of FLOSS.
