[Nottingham] What mobile to get?

Thanks for the input, I read somewhere that you can get it to run android
apps on the native OS is this true? The reason I wasn't sure about going for
the HTC's is I'm not really bothered about getting games and things the apps
I'd more likely get would be social media and utility apps. Also would love
to be able to learn how to make my own apps so in your opinions the N900
with meemo is more open then android?
