Folks,

Richard Stallman is in the news again:

Is Android really free software?

Google's smartphone code is often described as 'open' or 'free' – but
when examined by the Free Software Foundation, it starts to look like
something different

A good question in the comments is whether the Android system
(Bionic/Linux) would be as successful as it is now commercially if
Google had adopted one of the GPL flavours from the FSF instead of the
"lax" Apache licence... But also, there is the very big question of
what direction Google moves in next...

Quite a read...

Cheers,
Martin
