I think that firstly people do not know enough about encryption. They wonder "what will it
do to my home folder or hard drive?" "What if I forget my password?" "What if it all goes
wrong."

Now you consider that there are 3.5 million people with public keys - think of the total
population of the planet - the take-up of simply encrypting one's e-mails is very very
low. Then you are asking people to encrypt their hard drives - what is needed is the
"normalising" in all people's minds - like licking an envelope is second nature.

It so happens I'm doing some research into encrypting hard drives - and to make an easy
presentation of the facts and how to go about doing it. Most people do not know. And there
is some fear of the unknown.
