Hi All,

After a day's buggering about trying to get back to gnome-2 I decided to take up the
suggestion of LXDE. I installed opensuse 11.4 with LXDE. Hoorah! I can now have icons on my
desktop!

Anyhow, having checked it ran gnupgp2 - pgp2 -k which created home directory and all default
files - which I deleted and then copied all my files I then was faced with a problem. I had
Thunderbird 7 - no support for enigmail. So I decided to download the latest version and
install for all users - but it was not a tar programme - so I was thinking of downloading
that too.

So while thinking about it - I did a system update and low it installed Thunderbird 12 and
all I had to do was go to addons and install the latest enigmail - and now all's fine.

So how am I getting along? LXDE is a great improvement over gnome-3 I could not minimise
Mozilla or any programme - or copy files to the desktop - neither was their an easy way to
add programmes - and some programmes like Kgpg were not added to the desktop but where
clearly installed because I had to start them from a terminal. Gnome-3's crap. As for LXDE
its fast you can add files and folders to your desktop - and it comes with splashy the
alternative to boot-splash - I must give it a go.......

Key-signing:

I decided on printing out a "social card" as distinct from a business card. On it is my key
ID and long fingerprint and my mobile and email address. Short of being mugged and a mugger
knowing what a key ID and a fingerprint is - it will be me turning up with them! That way
you can all have my social card and can confirm that it is indeed me.

So Martin - how's the key-party getting along? How many Notts users want to have their keys
signed? All you need bring is some government issue photo ID (plastic driving licence
passport) your e-mail key ID and fingerprint and an easy way to have copies of your key ID
and fingerprint and e-mail and phone number.

When your key is signed it will be e-mailed back to you - then you can each upload to a
public key-server. If you have not got any one's key you can log into a key-server and put
the short key ID in - it will confirm the email address etc.. If you have any further
questions - Martin Jason or me.

Look forward to seeing you on this coming Wednesday!

David
