I started testing Ubuntu 12.04 at Alpha 1 and only twice went back to an
earlier install when there was a problem bug and Libreoffice wouldn't
work. I forced myself to use Unity during the 11.10 cycle, but after a
couple of weeks or so actually began seeing the nice features and began
to like it. 12.04 in my view is just great. Now the Unity Lens system
is working in a friendly way it's really easy to use. Spending a bit of
time on the Ubuntu Help sites has shown me just how many folk are moving
from Windows to try gnu/linux for the first time. Questions like 'Yes,
but where do I do sudo apt-get install -f' are really common.
It would be nice to have a far more configurable Unity without getting
messy and writing lenses, but that will come.
Of course we all liked the gnome desktop. When I go back to it now, I
find it just a little frustrating!
