This is probably the best, but does tend to be a catch-all kernel,
distro, f/oss and omg-i-busted-my-system stuff. Which is no bad thing
really.
There various other subreddits dedicated to the actual kernel
(http://reddit.co/r/kernel) , RMS (http://www.reddit.com/r/gnu),
specific distros (e.g. http://www.reddit.com/r/linuxmint), gaming etc
(http://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming).

Has this improved since Bryan left? Or is it just that the subreddit
that's good for news?
(Personally I couldn't stand LAS, preferred Linux Outlaws
http://sixgun.org/linuxoutlaws).

There is http://www.theregister.co.uk/ but that isn't GNU/Linux specific
and you'll have to put up with a lot of fawning to MS. And, amusingly,
a lot of ripping the arse out of MS. SO it's actually rather balanced
in that regard.

Or save yourself that pain and start reading http://www.heise.de/
Learning German is probably easier. ;-)
