I went with a Samsung 840 Pro in the end. Found the 512GB on as a total
bargain on Amazon after trying various sites (£240 vs ~£350).
I don't actually need 512GB of SSD magic, but at that price it would be
silly not to.

FWIW: Intel, Crucial, Kingston, Toshiba and Samsung all got glowing
reviews from users. Seemed to be much of a muchness (if we ignore the
loss-of-power thing), so long as you allowed for the slightly different
performance envelopes they have.
