I think this comment sums it up nicely:
    The Linux - RPI marriage is purely one of convenience. I don't think
the Raspberry Pi Foundation realise what they have, beyond it's PR value.

I guess have a Windows variant is more choice (not that more choice is
/always/ a good thing). I just worry that it will be the
thin-end-of-the-wedge and the RasPi will begin to drift away from F/OSS
as I don't think the Maker community is overly concerned with software
freedom either.
