Hi Vadim,

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, it really is 3 GB. Someone gave me 2 GB of RAM, so I increased the level from 1.5.

It looks as if you're correct about the limit of 2 GB. (I didn't previously realise there was a limit). I haven't opened up the desktop recently to look for details of model and numbers but my information is that the motherboard is a Packard Bell BV Cuba MS-7301 (version 1). See the link athttp://www.findlaptopdriver.com/spec-msi-ms-7301-cuba/

This says memory: 2 x 184-pin DDR2 DIMM slots – Dual Channel DDR2 533/400 non-ECC , un-buffered memory (Max 2GB).

The version comes from lshw:

lshw

*-memory

description: System Memory

physical id: 29

slot: System board or motherboard

size: 3GiB

*-bank:0

description: DIMM DDR2

product: None

vendor: None

physical id: 0

serial: None

slot: A0

size: 2GiB

*-bank:1

description: DIMM DDR2

product: None

vendor: None

physical id: 1

serial: None

slot: A1

size: 1GiB

Do you need further details and is the surplus RAM a problem?

Regards,

Nigel
