Sweet, that'd be a bit easier that having to mess around with the partitions can then continually swap drive around or other shenanigans until everything is expanded.

Yeah, I found out about all that *after* I had the drives and what can kill them is their aggressive spin-down to stave on power. All those down/up cycles kill the motor after a while.
Still, they haven't put a foot wrong up until now and I don't exactly need super-fast response times anyway.

It's going to have to be HDDs for me, no way my budget will stretch to multiple, multi-terabyte SSDs!
Hmm....could put the OS on a smaller SSD and then Contianers/VMs on spinning rust....

That's the weird thing. MDADM had ynaked the drive from the RAID due to an problem (no idea what) but SMART says nothing is wrong.
It's all rebuilt now and (touch wood), working.
