Thanks David, I hadn't considered a framework route and will investigate.
Any thoughts on the new Zend Framework, or is it still early days? Symfony?
Cheers for the OO prompt, I haven't tried Base yet.

(Correction to my original post: the db tool was S-Designor, now called
Sybase PowerDesigner.)
