you don't need an ipaddress for each host if you use name-based vhosts.
it's different for apache or apache 2 the doc are can be found at
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/vhosts/ which seems to explain it
nicely. I have used apache2 for the last couple of years with no
problems so unless you have a real need to stick with 1.3 I would
stick to 2.
