Thanks for the suggestion.  That was the way I wnated to do it.  Am down to 
3 possible editors TinyMCE, FCKEditor and Xhina. There is a bunch of editors 
(open source and commercial) over at www.htmlarea.com/

I'd suggest you use one of the many javascript editors to provide a non-html 
editing interface to save your users from having to know HTML. e.g. Kupu or 
FCKEdit (i think).
